Oh my goodness. So we just got off the air an hour ago on a Wednesday edition of OnQ. Rich Kenona is here. Appreciate you guys tuning in. We had to jump back on the breaking news, the blockbuster deal. It happened as soon as we got off the air. Are you kidding me? As soon as we talk about Jalen Brown and the Boston Celtics, what happens? The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Jalen Brown to the 76ers, who finally unloaded that Paul George albatross of a contract. But listen to this. The Celtics agreed to trade Jalen Brown to the Sixers for Paul George, two first round picks, and two second-round picks. What the hell just happened? What is going on in the NBA? Somebody explain to me what the hell is going on with the drinking water in the NBA? Because I cannot figure it out. I'm like, I was literally outside. I'm uh I'm walking the dog, I'm walking Kiki. I come back in, I'm getting ready to do some stuff. You can see I'm all disheveled. I got the sweat going all over the place. And I turn around and I get an alert. I get an alert. So now all of a sudden, you give up the King's ransom and you pair once again. Once again, you give Embiid a playmaker. You give Embiid a playmaker, a big time playmaker to go along with the death and maxi. So I I mean, it listen. We just had Jonathan Marshall on. Cover the Sixers, covered Memphis, covered the NBA, covered Boston Celtics. He just texts me, wow. I would love to sneak him on for a couple moments. I know he's just very busy at this moment, but this is this is just in it's insanity what's going on right now. It's absolutely insanity what's going on with the NBA. And maybe this move, and yes, guys, I'm disheveled. I just did two hours on the air and we're coming back on for a little rapid fire. Um, maybe there's a move, another corresponding move when it comes to the Sixers and trying to lock up and beat even more. I I don't know. I don't know, but wow. Two first is a lot. It's it that is a lot. Two first is a lot. And the Philadelphia 76ers obviously are telling you, you know, we're trying to make a run here. We're trying to go for it. And obviously, they're milking whatever they can out of. I mean, like, wow. Whether it's Ganze, whether it's Maury, Celtics agree to trade Jalen Brown, disgruntled, talented Jalen Brown. We were just talking about where Jalen Brown was going to land not even an hour and a half ago, Jonathan Marshall and myself. I literally asked him the question. At the end of the day, he's going to be a Celtic starting next season. He said, no, we just didn't figure out where it was going to be. Well, now we know. Philadelphia for Paul George, which they had to get rid of, two first round picks, two second round picks. So now you've got a bona fide, another playmaker, another, another. And by the way, you know, uh, Mori's not making this trade. Right? He he ain't making this move. But this is a now shift franchise-wise, which is telling you the Philadelphia 76ers are looking around the Eastern Conference and they're not standing Pat. They're not standing Pat because they understand they only have a couple more years left with Embiid. You know, if he can be healthy, if he can be engaged. And let's be honest, they've done everything now. They've done everything to placate Embiid. Everything. Everything when it's all said and done. When you go through the laundry list of players, whether it was Simmons, whether it was Harden, whether it was George, whether it was Maxie, now it's Brown. So if this guy can't win, if he can't get out of the second round, unbelievable. And I know everyone's like, you look like you're absolutely to shove it on the air right now because you're trying to process it. Yeah, I am. I'm trying to process it because they gave up a boatload. And I don't know. The Boston Celtics, I mean, they're pretty much telling you. They're pretty much telling you, man, we are we are blowing it up. We are starting from scratch. Now, obviously, you still got the marquee franchise player in Tatum, but this was a ballsy, ballsy, ballsy, ballsy. Now, it it it's it's subtraction if you're a Boston Celtics fan, but you got back assets. You got back equity. And, you know, Paul George, which, let's be honest, I mean, you know, it is Paul George at this stage of his career, you they were just trying to get out of that contract. But this this is a friggin' wow. This is like holy shit, this is beyond a wow. Especially, just not Mitch Robinson signing with the Boston Celtics arrival. This is 76ers in Boston doing a swap, which is a rarity, and getting a great player, an all-star player in Brown. So, Mike Ganze, how do you do? I mean, because that took some stones. Now, again, there is a lot to unpack. There's a lot to uncover. And it is, you know, kind of you got to take a step back. But think about the compensation to Boston, right? George to the Celtics, Brown to the Sixers, 2028 first round pick that can convert from a first to a swap that is more favorable to Boston, 2021, uh 2031 unprotected Philly first, and 2028. 2028, second round. It's crazy. Sixers come back from a 3-1 deficit against the Boston Celtics first round in the playoffs. Now you got Brown and George swapping teams. And Brown won it out. You know, Brown won it out. We we talked about it today. Once Brown's name, even prior to, like Jonathan alluded to, Jalen Brown's name has been cropping up and popping up all over the place when you talk about trade rumors. So once the Miami Heat, you know, they were they were trying to, or once Boston was trying to dangle Brown out there to get Giannis and Miami Heat trades for the former MVP and Giannis, and and now he winds up in Miami. There was a a big time uh riff going on between Jalen Brown and the Boston Celtics front office.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_00Coach Rick says hate it, doesn't make them more closer than no, it actually think about it, it it's they're not closer. But they have capital, they have equity, they have draft equity, they have picks, and they got rid of a malcontent. They got rid of a malcontent in Jalen Brown, who's a great player. He's a great player, but this is just I I'm telling you, nothing when it comes to the NBA, I I mentioned this in nauseum. Nothing surprises me. Nothing ever surprises me. So you got Jalen Brown with a new home. Now think about this, and that think about how it's gonna get paired up now. I mean, you've got three, you know, without a doubt, without a doubt, three, right, um, players that can give you 20 to 25. I mean, he averaged 28. Jalen Brown was a big-time player. He finished sixth in MVP voting. There was talk that Jalen Brown was the MVP of the league. And again, so you got one of the best two-way forwards in the league. He was been able to kind of partner up with Tatum, and you got that perennial contender in Boston for the last decade. But now it's different. Now you got Maxie, you got him bead, and now you got a Philly team that already has confidence knocking out Boston, coming back down 3-1 and winning that series. But this also tells me they are trying to milk whatever's left of Embiid and try to make a deep run out of the Eastern Conference. Now, if we go right now, Celtics title odds with Brown, they were 650. Okay, now we go to current. Let's just see. Celtics odds. Let me see, after Brown trade. So it moved uh not exponentially. I I thought maybe there would be a little a little bit of movement. Let me give you the Sixers current right now. Current uh 76ers title odds. So right now, right around 5,500 and plus 2,000 to win the Eastern Conference. I'm sure though they'll make those adjustments. I'm sure they'll make those adjustments. The bottom line is this the Philadelphia 76ers got better today. 76ers got better today. Now, the other question is, you know, Embiid. What are you gonna do? Like, you're trying to milk it out, right? You're trying to milk what's left. Or is this another conversation for another day? So Embiid has a three-year deal that's worth 200 million. Remember the Max? That was a veteran contract extension that runs through 2028, 2029. So he's making 64 million a year. So if you go and you look at his breakdown, see, Paul George, that was an albatross. The port, uh Paul George, it was almost like Tobias Harris. He was in the final year of that contract. That was 211 million. That was a free agent deal. So they got rid of that. They took care of what they needed to do. But this is a big time move by a franchise that I typically um pretty much give it to. I mean, this is a big time move by the Philadelphia 76ers. Got to give them credit where credit is due. Now, you want to sit there and say it was too much of an overhaul? Okay. We can have that conversation, but not at the moment, because it's pretty much instant reaction. And if you are a Celtics fan, you know, you knew you were gonna trade to disgruntled a player. You got back a lot of equity, but you also have to realize that, you know, there it's it's a vastly I I mentioned today what happens when the uh the Boston Celtics trade Brown, and where do you make that offense up? Where do you make that offense up? Like seriously, how do you how do you figure out a way to account for 20 something, 26 odd points? I mean, what a just a crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy last couple days. Uh now, you like Tatum and George for the Boston Celtics? You look at White, Pritchard, Tatum, George, Robinson. I mean, you okay with that starting five of your Boston Celtics fan? You know, do you do you you trade it, you can, you can argue, you trade it your best player. There are there's a sentiment that Brown is better than Tatum. I know it's it's it's a debate. We can argue it. Different schools of thought, different games. I said this earlier today. I think that Tatum has that alpha dog mentality. He's more willing to go to the basket and drive and be more physical than um Tatum is. We know what type of game Tatum has. A little more softer, a little more elegant, looking for his jump shot. But again, you know, Boston right now. I mean, do you like this move? I mean, you sit there and say, hey, play in, why not? But I I don't know. I I don't know if you are a Boston fan, what you're feeling today. I I really don't at this moment. Because, again, there was no speculation, no leak, no driplets, no droplets that Jalen Brown was headed towards Philly. And I'm telling you, I would say, I would argue right now, since LeBron sat up there and he was talking about taking his talents to Southeast, this has been the wildest uh NBA offseason I can ever imagine. It is just the wildest NBA offseason I can ever imagine. All right, quick timeout, we'll come back. I gotta take a breath. I know I'm disheveled. You guys are telling me I'm disheveled because again, I was outside, I was walking Kiki, all of a sudden I got the alert. I said, I gotta pop on for a few. We gotta get a little rapid reaction, do we not? All right, quick timeout, we'll come back to the welcome back. Uh, a uh double dip um edition of On Q Rich Kenyon is here. Yes, we are powered by our good friends over Fresh Roasted Coffee, and I needed my fresh roasted coffee. I'm looking around, I'm saying, where the hell is it? I gotta get another cup or two because we gotta really digest what's going on in the NBA, and certainly have to digest absolutely what the hell's going on right now. I mean, it's crazy. It's absolutely um crazy with the movement that we're seeing. And, you know, this is why in the NBA you can you can never really kind of sleep on a team, and you can never ultimately the the the player gets moved, right? I mean, we we've seen it time in and time again, time in and time out. The the player gets moved. The disgruntled player gets moved. You rarely see the coach, it's the disgruntled player. And the Boston Celtics had enough of Jalen Brown, and Jalen Brown made it known that the Boston Celtics, he has enough of them. The Celtics get George, two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and the Sixers get Brown. They're putting all their eggs in the Jalen Brown basket with Maxie, okay? With Embiid. They are saying right now, we got to figure out a way to get the hell out of the second round. I mean, that's exactly what they're trying to accomplish. They got to get to an Eastern Conference Finals, or the Embiid era, it will go down as just an epic failure. It will. So you got Maxie, right? Um, Embiid, uh Brown, uh uh Wade, Edgecombe. I mean, that's that's not bad. That's not bad. You you've got some depth with the Philadelphia 76ers. You already know if Embiid's engaged, he's gonna average his uh his 20 plus, 25. You know, Maxie now is still gonna give you 25, and I think there's gonna be more opportunities for spacing on the floor. Edgecombe is a young player that plays with confidence, a little different story in the playoffs against the Knicks, and now you have a proven veteran in Brown. Now, you want to argue and you want to talk about that they gave up too much. They're telling you we have to win now. That's exactly what the Philadelphia 76ers are saying. Damn picks. We're not gonna throw the baby out with the bathwater. We got to win now. We have to figure out a way to get the hell out of the second round, get to an Eastern Conference final. We've watched over the last eight years where eight different NBA teams have won championships. It is a bold, bold, bold move. It really is. It's a bold move. So you're gonna talk about George and four picks. You got rid of George, you gave up equity, you give up assets, but you are saying now we need to compete in the Eastern Conference. Look what's going on. Robbins into the Celtics, Kawhi back in Toronto, the Knicks are the NBA champ, the Miami Heat made a move for Giannis. We need to freaking compete. And we need to figure out a way to get out of the second round because you have no idea how much gas is left in that MB tank. You don't. You have no idea how much is left. But wow. I mean, and look, there's going to be the sentiment that said they gave out way too much. And there's also going to be the sentiment, Boston, what are you doing? Like, what are you doing? What the hell is the point of doing that? Yeah, I get it. What's going on with the franchise? Crazy. I mean, I thought the NFL gets goofy in the offseason. Right? It pales in comparison to what's going on in the NBA. I mean, yeah, it's it's a what the F. It's a what the F. It's a holy shit. It is. Crazy, crazy. Oh my goodness. So, yeah, just some thoughts on that. A little rapid reaction. Um, we're gonna fire off earlier tomorrow. Like I said, we're gonna be on the road with hoops, but I want to fire off tomorrow a little earlier. Uh, I guess we can kind of decompress and kind of go back to what just transpired. But again, if you guys are just tuning in, uh, a huge shakeup in the Eastern Conference, Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers, a team that was down 3-1 to the Boston Celtics in the playoff. They knocked him out, they went in seven. Uh, and the Philadelphia 76ers uh showing some onions today. They traded Paul George, two first-round picks, two second-round picks to the Boston Celtics for a perennial MVP candidate and an all-star in Jalen Brown, which gives Embiid another running mate along with Maxie, along with Edgecomb. And uh, you know, you talk a little bit about that bench and the depth. Now, again, I'm telling you, um, I don't even know. Like Robinson, your starting center, he's not giving you 18 to 20. You know, George getting older, he's so hit or miss. Pritchard, hit or miss. White, older. You got Tatum. If you're a Boston fan, you you gotta be, you gotta be beside yourself. You gotta. You gotta be beside yourself right now. You're not gonna be competitive. I mean, you'll be competitive, but you're not gonna be a title contender. I'm telling you, the New York Knicks winning the NBA title has just led to frigging madness, bedlam, chaos within the NBA. It's like people are looking around. The Knicks won the title. It's like, you know, those scenes in those movies where, you know, I don't I don't want to make light of like the riding or the looting like in those comedy movies when like everything's going to shot the shit and people are running all over the place and grabbing whatever they can and screaming. Like it's like a scene out of the movie Airplane, right? It's just total chaos and madness. That's that's exactly what's happening. The Knicks winning the title for the first time since 73 and 53 years. It has basically turned the NBA upside down. It's absolutely utter madness. It's chaos. And my Knicks were the ones that created this mess. Now they got to go back and defend the crown, they got to win it again next year. But it's been absolutely crazy. Crazy. And the funny thing is, you know, Jalen Brown. Here's the other thing. This is the other thing that no one has pointed out yet. Jalen Brown basically goes on his podcast after they blew a three-to-one lead to the Philadelphia 76ers and constantly said Empede was a flopper. He constantly said Empeod was soft, a flopper, dramatics, Oscar-winning performance, and now they're gonna be teammates. Oh my god, you cannot make this. You can't make this up. Uh, you cannot make this up. This guy goes on the pod and basically rips him. Rips him. He literally destroys them. Talking about flipping and flopping and calling them out two months for flipping and flopping, and we're the better team. And you know what? They shouldn't have beat us, they shouldn't have. I mean, calls out the refs, calls out embiid, calls out the ball boy, calls out the guy selling hot dogs. Everyone. He basically he's talking about flopping, ripping the league. Have fun in Philly. Now, listen, he's a great player, and I'm sure they'll probably work through that, or maybe not. But yeah, the New York Knicks have basically sent the rest of the NBA in utter chaos. All right, we're gonna pop on in the AM tomorrow. Keep the uh notifications locked in. Uh, you guys are fantastic. Big news of the day. What the frig? Put a bow on that baby on a Wusau Wednesday edition, a little rapid fire, a little Q-cut edition of OnQ again. If you guys are tuning in, uh, I don't know where you've been. Big time NBA news, Celtics sending uh Jalen Brown to the 76ers, Paul George, and a boatload of picks back to the Boston Celtics. We will take a breath and we will be back on in the AM for a Thursday edition of On Q. Always appreciate you guys. And uh until then, have a good Wednesday. We'll try to uh take a step back and really look at this one from bird's eye view, and uh, we'll talk a little more about it tomorrow. Maybe we'll pop on Jonathan again for a little uh instant reaction from him. But have a good uh sports Wednesday. As always, be safe, be sound. Hasta luego Mathea.
